Nancy Speck, Ph.D.
Vice Chairman
Representing Nacogdoches County on the Burke
Center Board of Trustees is Nancy C. Speck of Nacogdoches. Dr. Speck has
been active in mental health and mental retardation programs since the
passage of the Mental Health Act in the 1960's. She has a doctorate in the
field of special education and has been a professional educator since 1961.
De. Speck holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, Temple
University in Philadelphia, and Texas Women's University in Denton.
Currently, Dr. Speck serves as a consultant working with UTMB-Galveston and
Stephen F. Austin State University. She has formerly served as Assistant
Vice President for Academic Affairs, Director of Development, Vice President
for Advancement, and Assistant to the President. Since the 1970's, Dr. Speck
has served on many state and national committees related to the areas of
MHMR, economic development and long-range planning, and education.
Officially retired after thirty-one years of teaching, Dr. Speck continues
to be active in all phases of civic and professional life. Dr. Speck
currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for Burke Center,
President of the Board of Directors of the Texas Council of Community MHMR
Centers, and Secretary-Treasurer Board of Directors of the National Council
for Community Behavioral Healthcare. She was recently appointed to the
Presidential Freedom Commission on Mental Health.
