Emergency Services
Provides persons with mental illness access to needed
mental health services, whether long-term or crisis-based.
Meets the needs of the local community during mental health crisis
episodes by relieving immediate distress, reducing the risk of
escalation of a crisis and to provide referrals to appropriate
services. In addition, this unit has responsibility for acting as
the initial point of contact for all persons seeking mental health
services.
Responds to a toll-free number and handles all crisis calls during
regular business hours. During evenings, weekends and holidays the
callers to that number are patched from an answering service to a
qualified mental health professional on duty for the 11,00 square
mile region served by the Burke Center. When the circumstances
require a face-to-face evaluation, the crisis line clinician has
access to back-up clinicians in local communities to provide an
assessment. |
